The work began in 1997, when the Bosch family acquired land in the Cape Winelands. Early farming included both roses and olives, but over time the focus moved toward olive cultivation. The process required consistency. Harvest timing, fruit handling and extraction all had a direct impact on the final oil, and there was little room for variation if the outcome was to hold.

By 2001, oil was being pressed on the farm itself. This removed the need for external processing and allowed control from grove through to the finished product. What developed was not only oil, but a way of working based on observation, adjustment and repeatability. Once a standard was set, it was kept.

That same oil later became central to Rain Natural Skincare. The link between farming and formulation is direct. Changes in the oil affect the final product, which places pressure on consistency at every stage and requires that decisions are made with the full process in mind.

The move into mushroom cultivation followed the same line of thinking. It created the opportunity to work within a system where environmental conditions could be managed more closely. Temperature, humidity and airflow can be adjusted through the cycle, allowing for stable production where each stage is accounted for.

Through the partnership with the Chen family, this approach was extended into a different agricultural system. The method remains the same. Understand the conditions, control what can be controlled, and do the work in
a way that holds up over time.
